Starting my Otakon amv now. 5 days to go. I can't decide if I should make a romantic, epic fantasy Hello Kitty amv or a K-On! amv to one of the songs from Puncolle - Voice Actresses' Legendary Punk Songs Collection. Also tempted to make a Queen's Blade (and possibly K-On!) amv to the cover of Sex and Violence on that album. I don't know. No idea stands out like Shoes did last year really. Been thinking about possible amvs to make with songs on Schoolyard Heroes' album Abominations. I could just do 15 seconds of every idea. Too many choices.

Everything was awesome. We got a private area, called the rock garden, off by ourselves for most of the meal which was great. Jackie and I did a short tour after we finished and saw all the private rooms. They have a really nice setup there. I would definitely go again if a big party wanted to get together for it.

Went sledding with Jackie on Monday. It was a lot of fun. Brought a long, plastic sled and we both slid down the hill few times. I want to build a long sled with teflon runners out of carbon fiber. And then maybe a berserk sword using what I learn from making it. Also considering using silicon carbide and aramid layers inside the sword. I don't want it weighing too much though. The counterweight would have to be a lead slug encased in something durable even with a lightweight blade section.

Once I know it'll ship, I'll be getting a Pentium Dual-Core E5200 (2.5Ghz) for cheap to go with it. No cash on hand to order food. Don't feel like driving 10 blocks to get cash. Starvin'.

My mom took us out this morning for lunch. Drove all over town buying random school supplies for a while. Ate 3 turduckens for dinner. Flew a plane. I can fly a plane.

Also saw Snacks at blip fest. Snacks to Jackie, "hi, I'm from the internet." Me to Snacks, "you're the most e-famous person here." Snacks retorts, "except for the guy right behind you." I turn around. Moot is there. I reply, "doesn't count." I then get a picture of Jackie and Snacks standing next to each other. I tell Jackie, "you're famous now". Snacks laughs and facepalm.jpg's.

AWA 2008

    <lj:music>Ludo - The Horror of Our Love</lj:music>

I figured I might as well post, even though this will someday be dust floating in the cold void of space. AWA was fun, including the 16 hour drive there and 16 back. I actually enjoy marathon driving once in a while. Saw most of the Pro contest, both screenings of AMV Hell /0, SAST and won three Staff awards. Two for /0 and one for Shoes. Lost my memory of late Friday night temporarily. Yay for exhaustion. My memory came back yesterday night when I sat down to play Advance Wars: DoR, which I had done Friday night before falling asleep. Walking up to my room is still a little fuzzy though. Got hit on lightly at the con a few times. I got a few "hey! are you Brian!?" at Nate's party randomly. I was like, "um yeah" and was then unable to say much of anything for the next hour. I was also hit on by an unnamed female rapist. A short staffer girl with glasses gave me the award for Shoes. I'm seriously dating the best girlfriend I've ever had right now (cute, 23, 5', 36G, 34 min, <3's me) so I was completely uninterested in anything. I'm just now remembering telling Nate, "why am I even here? I have an awesome gf now".

I had several ideas for videos while at the con. I should try to list them somewhere before I forget them. I suppose I could just post them here instead of pasting them slowly to each friend on my buddy list. I want to rotoscope Osaka's eyes and mouth out and have them move around onto other characters while lip syncing. Not sure what song I'll use. I want to do something with Ludo - The Horror of Our Love. I've already seen a few of the more obvious ideas on youtube, like using Perfume or Sweeney Todd. I might only use Higurashi or make it various. Speaking of Higurashi, could also make a Higurashi amv with TF2 - Meet the Scout. "BOINK!" Fist of the North Star would work well with Meet the Sandvich. "My blood! He.. he punched out all my blood!" And Meet the Sniper could work well with Golgo 13 or for more comedic effect: Hellsing Ultimate or Gurren-Lagann. I might be part of a TF2 AMV MEP when the rest of the Meet the ____ videos come out. Fixing the AMV Hell /0 credits and adding a little to the opening. Oprah saying "over 9000 penises" will have to be incorporated somewhere. I'm pretty sure that episode of Oprah aired Friday while I was at the con. There may have been one Oprah & internet meme fan there that saw it and lol'd hard. For all the people who are going "wtf is he talking about": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7mn4mo-QYE

Anyway.. what else.. been wanting to make a tribute to anime and video game mermaids using Dethklok - Murmaider. I'd use Blue Sub No. 6, Aquaria, Petshop of Horrors, Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch, The Little Mermaid and maybe some MtG merfolk cards for good measure. Also been meaning to start work on a laser beam montage set to Dethklok - Detharmonic. All the classic giant laser beams: Nausicaa, Final Fantasy 6, Gundam Wing, DBZ, etc. Going to work with Bryce on MCR - Dead! soon. So that's the next project for a while.

Oh yeah! I put the SAST (Short Attention Span Theater) video that got the most praise from the other editors up on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq_r19xoKJE

As I was doing this, a car ahead of me in the lane on my left signaled right and started to slow down. We simultaneously changed lanes to the right in perfect unison.
and not just a little. My anus was just pouring blood. When I stood up to wipe some of the blood poured onto the side of the toilet bowl. I'm a little worried. I felt a pain in my intestinal track on the drive home and went to a rest stop. There was no blood then. Now it is bright red, fresh blood which would suggest a tear of some kind and not an intestinal perforation hopefully. I've wadded some toilet paper in between my cheeks. It's about 5 minutes after the toilet full of blood, and I'm not feeling faint so I guess it's not too bad. I should eat some cheerios and salad tomorrow.

Minor Cloverfield spoilers after cut

I saw Cloverfield tonight on a sort-of date with someone I've been talking to a while now. The theater I went to was on Long Island and was full of grade schoolers and high schoolers. For those of you who don't know, the stereotypes of Long Islanders are not exaggerations. They were all really loud and cursing constantly until the trailers started. I found this awesome because in most of the theaters I've been to over the years people generally just whisper to each other. During the trailers, the projectionist screwed up and had the film shifted (up and down) to a point where it couldn't be realigned while the film was rolling. There was a giant black bar at the top or bottom depending on which way they tried to adjust it. So at the end of the first trailer they stopped the film and everyone was like "wtf!". Then a minute later it came back with the collect alignment, and everyone was like "oh ok.. they fixed it, whatever". In the middle of the Star Trek trailer they stop the projection again (maybe because the audio levels were way down). This makes everyone in the theater pissed again. Lots of cursing; a few "I'll kill you!"'s. The trailer comes back on with the audio still a little too quiet. It goes to the next trailer and right in the middle of a sentence they stop projection. At this point a few people are like, "I'm goin' up there". There's a mix of laughing about it too. I was laughing a little by this point from all the reactions. What happened next is really the best part. The trailers end. The movie starts. It's color bars. Everyone in the theater starts to boo really loud. And one or two people start yelling, "SHUT UP IT'S THE MOVIE!". That moment.. was probably better than the movie.

I was really hoping for a good shot of a nuke at the end. It's possible that's what happened, but I would have really liked to have seen the tell-tale bright flash and shock wave of a nuke. All the emag of even a low yield nuke would have fried the camcorder at the range, I'm sure. There was foreshadowing for it from one of the soldiers. Nuking an entire area has been a good ending to some zombie movies. I was just hoping for something a little more edgey at the end.

Also, suspending disbelieve that something made out of flesh with huge semi-translucent sacs on the side of its head can survive direct bombing is a little difficult for me. At least Godzilla has scales mutated to withstand a nuke. Whatever happened to the easy "feed is something poisonous" or "rain down highly corrosive acid on it" ways out? The Geneva Convention does not apply to giant monster things.

Epic Family Trauma Post

Where to begin? I’ll start by giving you the ending. My stepfather went berserk and threw stuff around in the attic of the house in which my family lives. The police have taken him away.

A few weeks ago my mother discovered homosexual pornography on their computer. In addition to that, she found my stepfather’s email account left open on that computer with conversations between him and gay men looking to have sex. Their relationship has been strained for years. He’s never been friendly towards me, and recently he’s refused to help drive my sister, his daughter, places on several occasions. I personally have nothing against homosexual men and homosexual relationships of any kind. I also have no problem with my stepfather separating with my mother and moving on with his life. My mother has a problem with him being in a marriage with her in light of this. As do I.

For the past week he has been in Cleveland purportedly with a friend. He returned early Sunday. My mother decided to give him two weeks to find somewhere else to live and let him use the downstairs apartment. All of his clothing was put into plastic tubs and moved into the basement Sunday. The house has a side stairwell that connects every floor including the basement, the attic and the ground level. He was given a key to the the side stairwell. My mother, in dramatic fashion, barricaded the door with a chair and a cabinet. During the course of the day he came up the stairs and asked for several things including a checkbook and an application for something. She brought everything down to the front door he asked for and rang the bell for him to pick it up. Everything was a little tense but going fairly well at this point.

My mother and I were watching the marathon of The Next Iron Chef when there was a loud crash from the stairwell. She got on the phone with a friend and was preparing to just leave the house. We sat and thought about it, but the noise died down so we ignored it. A while later, he came to ask for something and was very angry. He stated, “Why can’t I come into my own house.” First, the house is not his. It is my godfather’s. Second, he hasn’t paid the rent for this month. He also banged on the door a few times. This was the last straw for my mother. She was a bit hesitant at first to call the police. She called, and they were there in about one minute. At this point she really wanted to leave the house. By the time she got her things together the police were at the door. She filled in a rather large motorcycle jacket clad officer in on the situation. She was given the choice to let him stay and work this out or have them take him away. She opted for away. A few minutes later, she was informed he would be taken away by ambulance. She told me that the ambulance is usually used by police when someone is threatening to commit suicide. The ambulance comes. His key is taken away. He’s taken away.

A while later, we decide to check the side door of the house and any attic damage. The side door was wide open. Also, the front door of the apartment was unlocked. Checked the apartment top to bottom. All clear. On to the attic. Shit is everywhere. Not literally shit, just our family’s stuff. It’s all knocked over. However, the attic mostly looked that way to begin with. Oddly some of my stuff (magic the gathering cards and photos) are scattered on the stairs leading up to the attic. He tore up pictures of me from my trip to China. That really is meaningless because we have the negatives for those photographs. None of the M:tG cards are ripped. I am slightly happy because I had forgotten where those decks were. However, my mom and I are still upset by the photo ripping. Neither of us are moved to any emotion other than worry really. It doesn’t make me sad or angry. I pick up all the cards, clean them off and put them back. I go back through the myriad of stuff on the stairs for more cards. I find some more pieces of my ripped photos and one other ripped paper. The paper is covered in pictures of my sister that are pasted to it. One from when she was an infant. I’m not sure why he would even do that, even in a rage.

I feel the need to supply some back-story to these events. My stepfather developed emotional problems because his father was an alcoholic and beat him. His brother has been an out of the closet homosexual for years. My stepfather worked past huge setbacks in his life and became a social worker, helping thousands of people with similar trauma. He’s worked mostly in asylums, hospitals, prisons and recently a high school. Over the past few years, he’s acquired increasingly aggressive manic behavior. He has also been on a regular exercise regimen for a few years. Near the start of this exercising he overdid his training and got physically exhausted to the point of almost dying. He was taken to the hospital where he confessed to the staff that he was thinking of committing suicide. He went through therapy and recovered enough to get back to his life. Several people took these events as a cry for attention and not a real suicide risk. However, this has strained his marriage to my mother ever since. She was seriously considering divorcing him before the discovery of the emails where he is pursuing men.

I’d also like to talk about his strained relationship with me over the years. My mother divorced my father when I was one years old because he cheated on her. I never played my parents against one another for affection or gifts. In fact, I took their separation as the norm for several years until I was told that some mothers and fathers live together. My stepfather married my mother when I was eight because my mother was pregnant, and she actually did love him and wanted a husband. It wasn’t a shotgun wedding, but it wasn’t far from it. My mother told me while I was taking a bath that she was pregnant and I was happy. My sister was born prematurely and my mother almost died as a result. Despite this I never harbored any grudge against my stepfather. I took it as something that could have happened with any husband. However, our relationship did become strained after that point; mostly due to his actions. My stepfather would get mad at me and complain about me to my mother because he was forbidden from disciplining me. I was a fairly good student in grade school. I was a happy kid. Slowly though, his negativity and the ignorance and unwillingness of my peers to learn grated on me. I became depressed at the prospect of going to school and interacting with people. I withdrew into games and television. I stopped reading for fun. I started playing M:tG in high school. My grades were barely acceptable even though every course I had was honors level. I’m still not sure how that was possible. By then, our relationship was strained to the point where I almost hit him with a wooden baseball bat because of him yelling at and insulting my mother. Then I went to college and forgot all that. I didn’t do great, but I have an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree. I’ve been having a hard time finding an engineering job and a girlfriend that doesn’t have deep seeded emotional problems. I believe these gaps in my employment have made my stepfather hate me and hate his life. The odd thing about that though is he didn’t pay for my education, my grandmother did. He’s also had no say in what I do or where I go, ever. I really feel no attachment to him at all. I am concerned for the wellbeing of my sister however. A long divorce is nothing she needs right now, as she is in college. I am moving back home at the end of the month.

I’d like to use this paragraph to talk about how straight I am. From the 12th to the 14th of October 2007, my then girlfriend of 2 weeks and I had sex five times. Kissing, cunnilingus, fellatio (for 15 minutes, WHAT!?), missionary, two legs up, one leg up, cowgirl, doggie and finally cuddling. A week later she broke up with me. I don’t want to write anymore. I’m tired.
